Get a support network

Try to find some positive like-minded people (not necessarily on your course) to connect with and try to meet regularly even when you’re particularly busy. Meeting in person is ideal but a chat on the phone can be great too.

R&R

Relaxation time and regular breaks might sound counterproductive when you are panicking about how much revision you need to do before an important exam or when you have a tight deadline to meet. However, it can be crucial to manage your stress levels and keep you focused. Try to plan your breaks ahead of time and incorporate them into your schedule.

Don’t underestimate the importance of exercise – find the type that works for you: yoga can be great for unwinding at the end of the day; HIIT is a good boost when you don’t have a lot of spare time; just getting out for a walk or a run is brilliant for clearing your head.

Refuelling

Eat healthily and avoid junk foods and takeaways (which can seem so tempting when we are stressed and busy). Keep some healthy snacks close to hand to keep energy levels consistent and to help you avoid chocolates and sugar when you need a lift.

Bigger picture

Don’t get disheartened if it seems to take longer than expected to achieve your ambitions. Try to enjoy the journey. Value and nurture the connections you make throughout your career. Set small goals and reward yourself for achieving them.
